Andrew Cope

Head of the Centre for Rheumatic Diseases in the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine at King’s College London, UK

Title to be confirmed.

BIOGRAPHY:

Andrew Cope is Head of the Centre for Rheumatic Diseases in the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine at King’s College London, UK, and Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in South East London. After completing his PhD at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology with Sir Tiny Maini and Sir Marc Feldmann he completed a Wellcome Trust funded postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University, California, with Hugh McDevitt, before returning to the Kennedy Institute in 1997. In 2008, he was recruited to the Versus Arthritis Chair in Rheumatology at King’s. Aligning with his clinical interests in inflammatory arthritis, his laboratory work has focused on the immunobiology of RA, including functional genomic studies in mouse models, and understanding pathways of T cell activation and differentiation in the context of RA. Recent work has involved defining the RA synovial immunopeptidome. He is chief investigator of the APIPPRA and ALTO clinical trials, where the explicit aim has been to prevent at risk individuals from progressing to RA. The first results of the APIPPRA study were published in The Lancet in 2024.
