MARION Sabrina

Dr Sabrina Marion obtained her PhD at the Pasteur Institute of Paris studying phagocytosis of human cells by the extracellular protozoan Entamobea histolytica. She then joined the lab of Gareth Griffiths at the EMBL (Heidelberg), where she studied the mechanisms of phagosome-lysosome fusion in macrophages in the context of bacterial infection. After her return to France, she continued to investigate phagocytosis in human and murine primary macrophages in the lab of Florence Niedergang at the Cochin Institute (Paris). She was recruited in 2013 as an associate Professor at the University of Lille. In her current research, she combines her expertise in cell biology and innate immunity to investigate host-pathogen interactions during Toxoplasma gondii infection. More recently, in collaboration with neuroscientists from Lille, Toulouse and the UK,she developed projects aiming to characterize the impact of latent brain infection and associated chronic neuroinflammation on neuronal functions in normal and pathological conditions.

Abstract: Latent cerebral Toxoplasma gondii infection exacerbates pathophysiological mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease.
