Rebekka K. Schneider is Director of the Department of Cell and Tumor Biology and W3 Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, RWTH Aachen University, and Associate Professor at the Erasmus MC Cancer Institute in Rotterdam. Trained in medicine and pathology at RWTH Aachen, with a PhD in hematology from Erasmus MC and a DFG postdoctoral fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, she leads a laboratory dissecting the mechanisms of bone marrow fibrosis in myeloproliferative and myelodysplastic neoplasms. Her group identified Gli1+ mesenchymal stromal cells as key drivers of marrow fibrosis, linked S100A8/S100A9 and CXCL4 signaling to disease progression, and more recently mapped complement-driven immune–stromal interactions in the fibrotic niche, with work published in Nature Medicine, Blood, Cell Stem Cell and Immunity. She has attracted over €15 million in competitive funding, including an ERC Consolidator Grant and a ZonMw Vidi, co-founded Sequantrix GmbH to develop anti-fibrotic therapies, and has been recognised by the Gerhard Domagk, Swammerdam and Johann Georg Zimmermann awards.
